Recently, GenSci148 Injection, a VEGF/Ang-2 multispecific fusion protein, has secured clinical trial approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

GenSci148 Injection is designed to inhibit multiple signaling pathways by targeting vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF-A, VEGF-C, VEGF-D) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), thereby suppressing pathological angiogenesis, reducing vascular permeability and improving vascular stability.

nAMD, DME, and RVO are significant contributors to visual impairment and blindness worldwide, representing a substantial and growing disease burden. The existing therapies require repeated intravitreal injections and long-term monitoring, which may affect patient adherence. In addition, some patients may experience suboptimal responses or limited treatment durability.

With its multispecific mechanism and long-acting design, GenSci148 has the potential to improve visual and anatomical outcomes while extending dosing intervals and reducing treatment burden, thereby providing a new option for patients.
